Gardening in Zone 5B
Southeast Wisconsin
Our summers are abundant but our unpredictable fall and spring seasons on top of brutal winters can present a challenge in the gardening world. One thing I learned the hard way; we need our winters in order to sustain our perennial crops as well as keep the pest population at manageable levels.
Below is a glimpse into my summer 2023 garden - my first official year as a cut flower grower.

Where the flowers meet the veggies
My annual field spans 40 ft x 80 ft with a quarter dedicated to vegetables! 2023 was my first year EVER with a vegetable garden. My takeaways - I don't need that many cucumbers and tomatoes!

Cupcake Cosmo Spotlight
The white flower in the middle is a Cupcake Cosmo! Delicate, pleated petals with a bright yellow center. They add a whimsical, airy aspect to bouquets.
Bouquet Ingredients: Cosmos, Zinnias, Marigolds, Celosia, Goldenrod, Sunflowers, Dara

Queen Lime Red Zinnia Steals the Show
That beautiful pink flower with the ombre lime center is a Zinnia! These specialty varieties were created to bring a new range of colors to the zinnia world!
Bouquet Ingredients: Multiple Zinnia varieties, Yarrow, Ageratum, Sunflower, Celosia, Goldenrod, Marigold, Goldenrod, Queen Anne's Lace and Cosmos.

That's NOT Queen Anne's Lace
Another form of a wild carrot, introducing Dara! Dara is larger than Queen Anne's Lace, fluffier florets and comes in a range of creamy white and chocolate/maroon. A perfect bouquet topper!
